To offer suggestions for our web site please contact Jerry Miller  Webmaster (site updated 2 Jan 2012 I would like to apologize for the delay in updating our site. Had some pretty major surgery on my right shoulder on 21 May and was not allowed to type up until a week ago, then only for a short time. Before I could completely recover from the shoulder I had to have a "Radical Neck Dissection" for return of cancer in the right side of my neck that was wrapped around my carotid artery. They had to scrape it off of it and remove some nerves and muscle on the right side of my neck. I should start chemo sometime late this month or early next month and may have to undergo radiation treatments again so please bear with me on the web site. Jerry

Commander's News/Notes... (Jan/Feb 2012)

COMMANDER NEWS/NOTES

Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and family gatherings of 2011 are now memories. I want to wish you and your families the brightest and happiest of New Years in 2012.

An immense amount of work and accomplishments have been made by the dedicated, hard-working members during the past 2 months. First, the Buddy Poppy event (11-04-11) was very successful. Next, on 11-05, a beautifully decorated float was entered in the Veterans Day Parade. The chili luncheon, after the parade, was very well attended. On 11-07, two state officials conducted an audit of the Post's financial records. They were very pleased with our record-keeping activities and found no major discrepancies. A memorial service was held at the Post for Al Klebofski. Prayers were offered and the folding and presentation of the American Flag to Mrs. Sharon Klebofski was made. On 11-27, my wife and I made a trip to Bolivar to deliver a check to a spouse of a deceased VFW member. She was in need of financial assistance and is the sole support of her 2-year old granddaughter. The Thanksgiving Dinner was a great success, being well-attended and the food was excellent.

On 12-07, the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Breakfast was held. A buffet breakfast was served, free-of-charge to the members and the public. Mr. Bill Martin, a Pearl Harbor survivor, was a special guest that morning.

The Christmas dinner was an enjoyable event with a large group of attendees who partook of a very delicious meal. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus were in attendance. They presented gifts to all of the children who were there. The Girl Scout troop from Robberson School provided the vocal music program.

Bingo has certainly been thriving. The number of players has been averaging about the same as before the smoking ban went into effect. The carport has been installed to provide protection for the smokers during inclement weather.

The Post is looking for even bigger and better activities in 2012. Two new major activities to be initiated are a vigorous membership drive. Also, once-a-month at a Saturday morning breakfast, the Post Service Officer will be available to assist veterans who want to file a VA benefit claim for the first time. The time and date will be announced in the media beforehand.

Special thanks go to Ron Stacye and staff for the extra-special meals provided for the parade day, Thanksgiving , Pearl Harbor Breakfast, and Christmas Dinners. Also, to Kim Stacye and crew for the parade float.

This Post is truly on the move forward. I hope to see everyone at many of the events that will occur in 2012. Mark your calendars for the District 14 meeting on Sunday, 01-15-12, This meeting will be at OUR Post and a good representation by our members will be most appreciated. We hope that each and every member and family have a most rewarding and enjoyable time in 2012. Other events are listed in the calendars and the EVENTS LISTING columns.

Bill St. Gemme, Commander
