The J. Wilbur Adams Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
3404 was chartered 22 May 1966 with 44 members. It presently has over 375
members.
The objects of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
are fraternal, patriotic, historical and educational; to preserve and strengthen
comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the
memory and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and orphans; to
maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and
fidelity to its Constitution and laws: to foster true patriotism, to maintain and
extend the institutions of American freedom; and to preserve and defend the
United States from all her enemies, whomsoever.

Commander's News/Notes... (Mar/Apr 2010)
Since the last newsletter went to press we have had our Christmas
Dinner for 2009. I want to THANK all of the members that made it happen. There
is always much work required to accomplish events. Santa was a huge hit with the
kids and I want to thank Santa’s Elf for providing the gifts for the kids. Also
we need to give a huge Thanks to Ron Stacye and the Veterans Café. They provided
all the food and cooking for our Christmas dinner and didn’t charge the Post
anything.
On January 17th
we hosted the 14th
District Meeting and Dinner. This is the largest meeting of the year for the 14th
District. I believe we had close to 125 people at the dinner. It is when the 14th
District awards the P/P and VOD prizes to the winners of the essay contests. I
am proud to let you all know that two or our entries also were winners in the
district contest.
As all of you know this has been a long winter. Below normal
temperatures along with ice and snow, and broken equipment has been expensive
for the Post. We have to keep the heat on when it is cold to keep water lines
from freezing so the utility bills have been over $800.00. The ice maker broke
and that cost us $750.00 to repair. Plus snow removal has cost $600.00 so far
this winter and it’s not even over as of yet. Just wanted to let you know where
a lot of the money we have made on bingo has been spent.
As always I invite all of you to come to your Post and enjoy
a good meal at very reasonable prices at the Veterans Café. The Café has helped
offset many of the cost to remove snow and pay the utility bills. Plus many of
the general repairs that have to be done to keep the building in good condition.
We have signed up at least 15 new members this past year from veterans coming in
to eat.
Hope to see each of you in the near future at your Post. The
coffee pot is always on.
George R.
Smith,
Commander
VFW Post 3404
