LADIES AUXILIARY UPDATE NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2011
We have been busy! Our float in the Veteran's Day Parade was great! We had lots of help, but special thanks go to Kim & Ron Stacye who stepped up to make it all happen. Our Girl Scout Troop from Robberson School rode on the float with our Auxiliary ladies and LOVED it! I'll bet that day will be in their hearts forever.
We and our bingo players helped collect items for the girls to use to make gifts for nursing home patients they plan to visit. Carol and Evelyn, co-chairs of our Youth Committee, are doing a wonderful job of working with them. What a great group of girls!
Our Thanksgiving Day Dinner was a huge success. We had 117 guests, the food was yummy, and everyone seemed to have a good time. Thanks, again, to our ladies who baked turkeys and desserts and to Ron for preparing everything else.
The winner of our beautiful quilt was Mike Barker. I had the privilege of calling to tell him and he was excited. He frequents the Café and had purchased the winning ticket while he was there for lunch one day.
We had 93 entries for our Patriot's Pen Essay Contest. We received many good essays from three schools and hope that more will participate next year.
The winners are:
1st Place Trevor Moore from Reed Academy $175 2nd Place — Brooke Baker from Reed Academy $75
31d Place — Libby Nelson from St. Agnes Elementary $50
Rita St.Gemme and I presented the awards on December 2nd, along with invitations to the winners and their families to attend our Christmas Dinner as our guests. Congratulations to Trevor, Brooke, Libby and to all of the students who entered. The District winners of Patriot's Pen will be honored at the District Meeting on January 15th at Post 3404. We congratulate all of them on a job well done.
Bingo is going great guns. We have some new volunteers who are doing a wonderful job. Chuck and Ron Duff have trained as callers and front desk. And bless Billy Beatty and Wilbur Allen, who are there every Saturday evening. Several additional Auxiliary ladies are also helping. Thanks to all of you who have volunteered and to all of you who come to play. What a great group!
Special thanks goes to my husband, John, who worked with the State Gaming Commission to reinstate our bingo operation very, very quickly. Every time he leaves the house I remind him, "Do not volunteer for anything, but if you do, do not tell them that you have a wife." This was an exception, however, and I'm proud of him for accepting the position of Bingo Chairman.
Another special thanks goes to Bill St.Gemme, who stepped up to accept the position of Post Commander. He is doing a tremendous job and we're all proud of him.
We've been collecting food from our members and our very generous bingo players. We had planned to distribute it to a veteran and his wife who are raising several of their grandchildren. Thanks to everyone's generosity, we'll be able to provide food for others, as well. Thank you so much, nice people!
We hope your Christmas was filled with many blessings. We consider each of you a great blessing to us and to our great country. God bless each of you and God bless America.
